Novak Djokovic was the first player to take a set from Rafael Nadal at Roland Garros, but he did not do enough to dethrone the perennial French Open winner.

In the end, Nadal took home his seventh 2012 French Open championship with a final line of 6-4, 6-3, 2-6, 6-5 (7-5)।

Nadal won the first two sets before Djokovic rallied and dominated the third. The fourth set got underway Sunday, but rain forced the duo to wait until Monday to decide the tournament.

The rain eased up a bit as the world's No. 1 and No. 2 players returned to the court, but play was momentarily halted with Nadal up 5-4. They returned several moments later with the ball in Djokovic's hand. He quickly tied it up at 5-5 before Rafa took the serve and went up 6-5.

We have seen Djokovic live to play another set like nobody else in the sport, but Nadal on the red clay was simply too much. After battling back and forth, a double-fault from the Djoker gave the set, and the match, to Nadal.

The Spaniard was absolutely dominant throughout the tournament, dropping only one of 22 sets at Roland Garros. He defeated four ranked opponents, including the world's No. 6 and No. 1 players, on the way to his 12th Grand Slam victory to date.

Djokovic has owned the tennis world for the past 18 months, but with seven titles in the last eight years at Roland Garros, Nadal owns the French Open like nobody ever has before.
