There are two types of trenders –

  • The Trend Setters – one who frequently sets pedestal for new and upcoming Trends
  • The Trend Followers – one who follows the set trends

Vikaas Kalantri’s White Leaf Entertainment and his team have proved themselves as Trend Setters again and again. This time, yet another nail was nailed into this title through the 5th Edition of theBoroplus Gold Awards - Global Indian Television Awards.

On 14th July at Filmcity, Mumbai the Indian Television fraternity was invited to Platform that recognizes and celebrates their excellence, on a Global level.

The Celebration kick started with A GOLD CARPET (now that’s a fresh trend!!)…. as sparkling and special as the people who graced it with their presence. The backdrop of the Gold Carpet was a wall of archives, that has photo collages of last 4 Gold Awards, promising a whole new world of Fun in its wake.

It was not just a celebration for Television Industry but a celebration of a fabulous year and for the coming years at Gold Awards…. and why won’t it be, the turnover of the votes this season is a prove more than 3 Lakh in 4 days …now if that’s not a Trend setting event in itself than what is?

Let us introduce you to the Gold Awards:

  • The Annual Television Academy Awards
  • The first ever and the only Indian Television Awards to Globe Trot
  • It recognizes outstanding achievements, both in popular as well as technical branches and crafts
  • GOLD AWARDS represents the best achievements of the year in the opinion of those who themselves reside at the top of their craft
  • It ensures active participation from the Television fraternity

The night was filled with Entertainment and Fashion quotient with an envious line-up of celebrities at their very best; if you don’t believe us just have a look at the images of the Gold Carpet!

We will get back to you with more happenings of the Gold Carpet and beyond, the 5th Edition of Boroplus Gold Awards.

They light up the small screen, but have seen relatively little exposure in the movies. Here’s James’ of TV stars we’d love to see on the big screen…

Straddling the fine line between success and failure in Hollywood is like walking a tightrope of future career persecution and retrospective judgement.

Success on the TV screen is not always amply rewarded with a success on the big screen. There are a few ways to make the cut – reinvent your career through TV (Keifer Sutherland style), take the path less trodden with a series of slow-burning support roles (JK Simmons) or have a huge hit on TV simply too large to ignore (Ricky Gervais).

Hollywood is a bit like an elitist private members club – once you’re in, you’re in, but cracking it has proven far too difficult for this list of talented actors in the past. We, the people, want more of them. So, without further ado…

Bradley Whitford

While The West Wing was originally part-conceived and created as a vehicle to re-launch Rob Lowe’s stalled Hollywood career, it was Whitford that remained the shining light and emotional centre through the show’s seven seasons. The winner of three straight Emmy Awards for Outstanding Support Actor in a Drama Series for the role of Josh Lyman, Whitford’s career on the big screen simply failed to take off.

Despite a key supporting role in Al Pacino’s Oscar winning film Scent Of A Woman and further smaller parts in respectable fare such as The Client and Philadelphia around the mid-90s, lead roles have so far eluded him. Often miscast as a villain on the big screen, most notably in horror-show Billy Madison, Whitford’s ability to cope with sharp-tongued, rapid-fire dialogue and switch seamlessly from pathos to logos is unparalleled.

Versatile, witty and charming, he’s been criminally underused and simply doesn’t get the recognition he deserves. You can catch him in upcoming horror flick The Cabin In The Woods, penned by none other than Buffy and Angel creator Joss Whedon, alongside Thor star Chris Hemsworth and the underrated Richard Jenkins.

James Gandolfini

The Sopranos is one of the best TV shows ever made, mostly because of Tony Soprano. Gandolfini’s complex portrayal of a New Jersey crime boss struggling to maintain control of his old-school criminal organisation, beset by the strains and stresses of the modern day is a must-see. Volatile, powerful and compelling, Gandolfini drives The Sopranos to be the show it is, with quite possibly the single most excellent TV character ever committed to television.

Success on the big screen hasn’t eluded Gandolfini to the same extent as some of the other actors on this list, but I get the feeling that it was merely token recognition of the success of The Sopranos, as opposed to any underlying urge to cast him. It’s fair to say that his forays into the world of film have been met with a mixed reception at best so far – star turns in The Man Who Wasn’t There, The Last Castle, 8mm, The Mexican, and ensemble piece Romance And Cigarettes have all barely scratched the surface of what Gandolfini is capable of producing.

Perhaps his character-driven portrayals aren’t ideally suited to the two-hour format of film, but future support roles opposite Brad Pitt in crime film Cogan’s Trade, a star-studded cast including Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock in Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close and opposite fellow Sopranos cast member Steve Buscemi and Jim Carrey in Burt Wonderstone could go some way to rectifying that in the very near future.

Matthew Perry

I always got the sense when watching Friends that Perry was comfortably the best actor on set. Whereas Matt Le Blanc became locked in self-parody and David Schwimmer lacked star quality and possessed a burning ambition to get behind the camera, Perry was the true male star of what must go down as one of the most perfectly simple sitcoms of all time.

The success, or lack thereof, of the Friends cast since the curtain was brought down on Central Perk for the final time back in 2004 has been well documented.

Jennifer Aniston simply makes the same film, a variant of Rachel, over and over again. Lisa Kudrow seems content to keep a low profile and Courtney Cox is more suited to the subtleties of television. While Perry may be most famous for playing Chandler Bing, it was his role as Matt Albie in the short-lived Sorkin creation Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip which went some way to proving his acting stripes, tackling a series of close to home issues such as drug addiction and pressures with fame and success in the process.

His guest role as Republican Joe Quincy in The West Wing also saw him win two Emmy awards for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series, despite appearing in just three episodes. He may have been typecast as the light comic relief, but there’s much more to Perry than meets the eye.

Michael Kenneth Williams

It takes an awful lot to stand out from the crowd on a show as strong as The Wire. One of The Wire’s biggest qualities was the strength of its superb cast, but Williams’ memorable turn as the contradictory modern day Robin Hood of West Baltimore, Omar Little set him apart. Little was responsible for some of The Wire’s best moments – whether it was taking prophetically about The Game, making a fool of mob lawyer Maurice Levy in court or teaming up with Brother Mouzone to bring down Stringer Bell, William’s thought-provoking and moralistic portrayal of Little is one the show’s highlights.

Williams’ career since The Wire has begun to flourish and he looks to be heating up the Hollywood cooker little by little, year on year. Roles include Brooklyn’s Finest, Life During Wartime, The Road and a recurring, pivotal role as Atlantic County underground crime boss Albert ‘Chalky’ White in Martin Scorsese’s excellent Boardwalk Empire.

So what’s next on the horizon? A role in Quentin Tarantino’s highly-anticipated Django Unchained alongside the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Jamie Foxx and Samuel L Jackson awaits. Fellow Wire co-star Idris Elba once stated, when talking about the recent under-representation of black actors in Hollywood: “Imagine a film such as Inception with an entire cast of black people – do you think it would be successful? Would people watch it? But no one questions the fact that everyone's white. That's what we have to change.”

Something tells me the likes of Williams and Elba will go some way to redressing this imbalance in the near future.

David Duchovny

He’s been the star of both the critically acclaimed X-Files and the outright hilarious Californication, but still, we simply don’t see enough of Duchovny on our cinema screens. Seemingly content with what can only be described as the role of a lifetime, essentially playing a more extreme version of himself as the self-destructive novelist Hank Moody, it’s as FBI agent Fox Mulder that Duchvony is most famous for.

Funny, intelligent and with charisma by the bucket load, it seems odd that Hollywood never really came calling. Winner of countless Emmys and Golden Globes for both drama and comedy, Duchovny remains an elusive talent; an enigma yet to be cracked by film.

A promising start in Kalifornia opposite Brad Pitt back in 1992 was never capitalised on, and it has since been followed up by the good (Things We Lost In The Fire), the bad (Evolution) and the ugly (Return To Me).

Steve Coogan

Steve Coogan is a comedy god of UK television. Taking his place in the pantheon of greats, he will quite rightly be held in the same esteem as the likes of Cleese, Cooper and Hancock. Alan Partridge is without doubt the greatest British comedy of the last 25 years (sorry, Office fans).

Endlessly watchable, subtly brilliant and immediately quotable, I’ve since found that a decent knowledge and understanding of all things Partridge is a useful barometer as to whether you’re a person of any worth or not. You get the feeling Coogan knows his time has been and gone, with the tragic misstep of playing Phileas Fogg in the horrific Around The World In 80 Days opposite Jackie Chan and Arnold Schwarzenegger proving somewhat fateful in derailing what Hollywood ambitions he may once have harboured.

While cameos in more successful films alongside Hollywood cronies appreciative of his talents, such as Tropic Thunder and Night At The Museum have seen him become fractionally more recognisable across the pond, he’s still underachieved hugely compared to his fellow BBC comedy alumni Ricky Gervais and Simon Pegg. The mooted Alan Partridge movie might change that.

Coogan is well known to be prone to introspection, which is what made The Trip such an unexpected delight last Christmas. It was here and in 24 Party People, both helmed by Michael Winterbottom, where Coogan has shown off his otherwise unseen acting chops.

Noah Wyle

Around the mid-90s, ER was the pinnacle of US television. If you didn’t have a cameo in it as a patient, you were a nobody. So exactly the same as our very own Holby City, then, right? Wyle’s performance as Dr John Carter was one of the keys to the show’s lasting success and broad appeal. From wide-eyed medical student to embittered chief resident, Carter’s journey is a great lesson in character development. His roles have since been few and far between, though, despite garnering critical claim for his 11-year stint on ER.

Minor roles in Donnie Darko, Oliver Stone’s W (Dubya) and A Few Good Men are as good as it’s got for Wyle on the big screen so far. Although he’s probably not ideally suited to playing a lead role in a dramatic picture, it’s nonetheless surprising that he’s failed to capitalise in a big way on the popularity and affection in which he’s held with something more substantial.

Nathan Fillion

Immensely watchable, Fillion is one of those rare actors who manages to improve whatever he’s in tenfold just by his presence. Would either Firefly or Serenity have worked anywhere near as well without the irrepressible Captain Malcolm Reynolds at the helm? It’s doubtful. Engaging, extremely likeable and endearing in equal measure, Fillion captures an everyman appeal without being like every other man.

This may sound like I secretly harbour a Fillion man-crush, and you’d be right for thinking that. It’s not a secret anymore. I’ve been outed. He’s the king of the B-movies, whether it’s Slither, Waitress or Trucker. He makes the unwatchable not only pleasant, but downright enjoyable.

With a market saturated by supposed ‘funny men’, even a Fillion operating at 50 per cent of his capacity is instantly more winning. We want more. Make it happen, Hollywood.

Edward James Olmos

Nobody plays grumpy, steely-eyed men of principle quite like Edward James Olmos. While most will be familiar with his work on the reimagining of the Battlestar Galactica series as Commander William Adama, it’s worth mentioning that he has an Oscar nomination under his belt for Best Actor after playing inspirational mathematics teacher Jamie Escalante in Stand And Deliver back in 1988.

Olmos is equally as well known for playing Lt Martin Castillo in Miami Vice for five years and for a brief cameo stint on The West Wing as troublesome but impassioned associate justice to the supreme court, Roberto Mendoza. His recent turn, fifth on the bill, in last year’s Green Hornet seemed an unusual choice. In a year of superhero overload, Green Hornet was certainly one of the weaker entries.

TV usually offers actors like Olmos a steady stream of work as they enter the twilight of their careers, but with studio execs seemingly incapable of seeing past the likes of James Cromwell and Tom Wilkinson as their go-to choice for ‘serious man in a suit’, they’d be hard pushed to find someone as natural a fit for the role as Olmos, even it does seem a tad beneath his range.

Peter Gallagher

To put it quite simply, the man that made the interminable melodrama fest that was The OC an enjoyable enough watch on a lazy Sunday afternoon. I for one didn’t tune in to watch Ryan’s moody teenager shtick, nor Seth’s wise-cracking, neurotic sensibilities. No, I watched it for Gallagher’s Sandy Cohen – the benevolent, opinionated and lively father figure of the ever-growing harem of one-dimensional privileged teens that are apparently ten a penny in Orange County.

Again, his age means that he’s destined never to be leading man material; nevertheless, he’s still a dependable actor with folksy charm. Conviction saw him brush off the cobwebs of his serious side, and he’s got a decent enough pedigree in indie films, most notably Steven Soderbergh’s breakout picture Sex, Lies And Videotape, not to mention smaller roles in American Beauty and the Coen brothers’ The Hudsucker Proxy.

He seems sincere, mischievous and most importantly, knowingly self-deprecating, as his turn as Dean Koons in Californication will attest – an often overlooked quality in today’s cinema. Plus, he just looks like he’d always have a Werther’s Original handy to give you should the occasion call for it. Now that’s something you can’t put a price on.

Friday, July 6, 2012

Finally the much talked about films, Gangs Of Wasseypur And Teri Meri Kahaani released this Friday. Both films have managed to gain much publicity recently. That is exactly why the opening response they received is a tad disappointing. If we go by the opening day responses of these films it seems neither will fare well at the box office.

Gangs Of Wasseypur managed the western viewers to sit up and take notice. The film however failed to impress the Indian crowd. The occupancy rate of Gangs Of Wasseypur across the country did not exceed 10 to 15 percent. Recent films like Shanghai and Ferrai Ki Sawaari managed to draw a greater number of people on their respective opening days. The film has been applauded by the critics but the general mass remain unimpressed.

The other Bollywood flick which hit the theaters this week was Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra starrer Teri Meri Kahaani. This film had a conventional and commercial script, cast and music. Still the Kunal Kohli movie failed to attract the audience to the theatres. The film had a marginally better opening than Gangs Of Wasseypur but that cannot be called impressive either. The occupancy rate in multiplexes for this reincarnation flick was about 30-35 percent. Shahid’s last unsuccessful film Mausam had managed to get a better opening than Teri Meri Kahaani. Much had been expected from the film which was directed by none other than Kunal Kohli. The Shahid and Priyanka chemistry failed to work it’s magic this time it appears. Critics are not very happy with the film either calling it predictable and run of the mill stuff.

The weekends will obviously see a rise in the occupancy rate for both the films. Even that will not be able to save either of the two films. It seems that the much awaited films has failed to strike a chord with the audiences.

Earnings of Rowdy Rathore as of this week is 114.6 crores

And yes you now get to see Akhshay Kumar in a completely new avatar. Some say it is somewhat close to Akshaya’s Khiladi look however we find his act in Rowdy Rathore to be plane simple raw. The raw look seems bound to leave quite an impact and with the IPL season over and no other good movie in sight Rowdy Rathore is sure to be a bang on hit.

The movie has already received an amazing start in most parts of the countries. Housefull multiplexes and single screen theaters present the whole story. It seems the movie is doing better business in single screen theaters than in multiplexes. Single screen theaters in UP and Delhi say a 85% plus occupancy rate on day 1. The entire northern Indian region sees a similar fate. Down south and Maharashtra the movie is going a bit slow with an average of 65% occupancy rate. However, the figures are only expected to improvise by the weekend.

After opening to a huge response on day 1 it seems the movie did better than most of us anticipated. Day 1 Box Office Collections of Rowdy Rathore stands strong at 15.10 crores. It’s been quite sometime since we saw a movie do that well. Akshay Khiladi Kumar rekindles magic yet again.

The Khiladi is shaking the Indian Box Office Scenario real hard. After a huge day one Rowdy Rathore made a bigger 14.70 crores worth Box Office Collections on Day 2. Sunday collections came true to the expectations of the makers and analysts. The movie made a smashing 18.30 crores on Sunday beating the record of many huge openings.

It was not surprising to see the movie stagger on Monday but it still did a much bigger business than any of its recent competitors. The first Monday Box Office Collections of Rowdy Rathore was 9.20 crores. Tuesday collections came down to 8.10 crores and Wednesday made a steady 7.40 crores. Thursday collections were 6.80 crores. Add to that an overseas box office collections of 11 crores.

The total domestic collections of Rowdy Rathore during its first week at the Indian Box Office was 79.60 crores. One can only imagine how heavy that figure is and I can’t help but wonder why most trade analysts predicted a way lower figure. Adding up the domestic and overseas collections of week 1 for Rowdy Rathore brings up the nett total to 90.6 crores.

Earnings of Department as of 21st May is 7.9 crores

And RGV has done it yet again. I sometimes wonder how a film-maker can deliver so many back to back flops in his lifetime and still dare to sign up mega stars like Amitabh Bachchan. Yes you got it right Ram Gopal Varma’s Department is headed to joining the biggest flop list of 2012.

The movie lacks nothing in terms of starcast, promotions, and a wide release platform but it only makes the point stronger than RGV can weave up a flop even with the best resources available.

Department opened to a shocking low today morning. The average occupancy rate was less than 25%. It seems neither the so called best item number (according to RGV again) Cheeni could attract any audiences nor could the fight sequences in the movie. The audience it seems is plane, simple sick and tired of RGV.

Poor reviews and negative word of mouth publicity have further added to the woes of RGV. It seems the movie will not make more than a 1.05 crores on Day 1 and have a weekend box office collection of less than 5 crores. Well RGV I guess it’s time to move on. Why don’t you try reality shows. Good at drama aren’t we?

So the official figures are finally out. The 1st day box office collections of Department were 2.5 crores. Pretty poor for the huge expectations of RGV I must add. Day 2 saw a further drop with merely 2 crores. Sunday was a tad better with the movie doing a bit better at the box office in certain states. The movie made a poor 2.5 crores on Sunday again.

The nett total box office collections of Department on it’s 1st weekend was merely 7 crores. Now 7 crores may be huge for a small budget film but considering the huge start cast and budget of Department one can sure brand it as a flop.

Updates:

The movie opened on Monday to a poor audience footfall. Many shows were even cancelled due to the poor footfall. It seems the movie is simply rejected by the masses. Monday shouldn’t look at more than 0.90 crores nett at the box office collection.

Earnings of Ishaqzaade as of 20th May 2012 is 33 crores.

One of the much hyped about movies of this year, Ishaqzaade finally sees the day today. The Yash Raj banner it seems has huge expectations from the performance of two newcomers. Huge promotional activities by the production house seem to prove the same.

A movie with no big star cast and both the main leads being newcomers, one might say such movies do not go too well at the Indian box office. However, one is bound to think that the Yash Raj Banner will never venture into uncertain tides. Their ventures with fresher’s have often proved fruitful and one does not help but wonder that the movie might actually do a decent business. Band Bazza Baaraat the other commercially successful Yash Raj Venture is an example of the same.

Also worth a mention here is the huge fan fallowing that Parineeti Chopra has amassed in a short amount of time. It is sure going to give a boost to this films prospects at the box office scenario.

The opening day seems to have a decent footfall all around the country. Ishaqzaade showed a 30-40% occupancy rate in most regions of the country. At places this went ahead to about a 50% occupancy. You might be surprised to note that the opening day is actually proving to be better than that of Band Baaza Baaraat.

Ishaqzaade will not be perturbed by the other release Dangerous Ishq as it is in a way stronger position than the latter. However, regional films down South and up North might affect the regional collection of Ishaqzaade. Gabbar Singh (Telugu) and Taur Mitran Di (Punjabi) seem to be on a decent opening but will not affect Ishaqzaade’s collections beyond a small region.

We won’t be surprised to see this movie make more money than the recent small releases like Vicky Donor. Saturday and Sunday will prove critical in deciding how big the movie is going to be. The movie should make a decent 3-3.5 crores at the Domestic Box Office on Day one.

So the official figures are finally out. Seems the movie has done a better business than we anticipated. For a movie centered around 2 newcomers the collections indeed are more than just fair. It was apparent from Day one that the movie will do a better business than Band Baza Baaraat and now the point has only grown stronger. Day 1 box office collections of Ishaqzaade was 4.30 crores. The movie showed a good pace on the second day. Day 2 bos office collections of Ishaqzaade was 5.10 crores. The movie is expected to get stronger by Sunday. Expected earnings of Sunday is about 6 crores. Add to this about 1 crore from overseas box office collections and you definitely get an above average film.

With Dangerous Ishq offering no resistance at all it seems the movie will go steady through out the entire week. The total box office collection of Ishaqzaade in its 1st weekend is 16 crores.

Updates:

The movie it seems is doing pretty well thanks to the absence of any other strong competing movie. It made a whooping 26 crores in it’s first week at the box office. Dangerous Ishq offering no resistance at all, seems to have emerged as a major flop. The music of Ishaqzaade it seems is creating quite a stir too.

The movie is doing well in it’s second weekend too. The release of RGV’s Department was a major disappointment as the audiences seem to have rejected it all together. Ishaqzaade has done pretty well in it’s 2nd week too. Making 7 crores in it’s 2nd weekend, the total domestic collection of the movie now stands at 33 crores. It is indeed a huge total for a movie with 2 newcomers. It seems the 2nd week will be good too.

Check out our review of Ishaqzaade right here

Earnings of Dangerous Ishq as of 20th May 2012 is 5 crores.

The movie which is supposed to mark the comeback of the 90s queen of hearts Karishma Kapoor might not receive as much hype as anticipated by its makers. Though the producers left no stone unturned to create a much sought for promotional campaign the movie still seems to be lacking what we call the essential formula of a Bollywood hit. Based on the age old theme of reincarnation, Dangerous Ishq promises the audiences suspense but from the looks of it, everything seems pretty predictable.

The two elements of the film that the makers will be counting on are the comeback of Karishma Kapoor and the usage of 3D technology. I really doubt that either of this will do any good for this film.

Dangerous Ishq had a pretty dull opening all over the country with occupancy of merely 10-15% on an average. It seems the 3D version is doing a bit better but it’s still way below expectations.

Add to this the edge that Ishaqzaade is offering it. If there is no magic stroke and the film does not make a rising at the box office on Saturday we can be certain that it will be heading to the flop list of 2012. The movie would have done better if it did not have to face the competition from same day release Ishaqzaade and previous releases Vicky Donor, Jannat 2 and Avengers all of which seem to be doing still well at the Indian box office.

Let’s wait for a day and see how big a flop this movie proves to be.

The movie made a very small opening on the 1st day at the Indian box office. Making a mere 1.05 crores on Day 1, it seems the movie was rejected outright by the audiences. It seems Ishaqzaade did all the damage to a already damaged film. The comeback of Karishma was no comeback at all rather a huge downfall. Come Day 2 and the movie saw a further downfall making a mere 1 crores at the domestic box office. Sunday saw a bit better collection with 1.30 crores but the weekdays saw the sudden demise of the movie. The 1st weekend total of the film was a mere 3.35 crores.

Dangerous Ishq had a disastrous 1st week at the Indian box office. The movie made a mere 4.75 crores in it’s first and what seems to be the last week of the movie at the Indian box office. Another 0.25 crores at the overseas box office makes the films total collection yet 5 crores. Disastrous indeed!

Earnings of Jannat 2 as of 17th May 2012 is 45 crores

Jannat 2, as expected, has managed to bag a bumper opening for itself. The initial report coming in, stated that the average occupancy was somewhere in the region 70-80%. If the trend continues, the movie is all set to rank itself as one of the highest earners of 2012.

Turnout was a bit on the lower side for multiplexes as compared to single screens. This is expected to improve though; over the weekends.

Super star-cast, chart topping music and well marketed promotion, has enabled Jannat 2 to garner such a grand opening. The hype and positive word-of-mouth publicity; are also expected to assist the film over the next few weeks. The release of YRF banner movie Ishaqzaade next Friday is not bound to create any sort of obstacle for Jannat 2.

Bhatt Camp has released both movies of the Jannat series around the IPL time. By the look of things, it’s safe to say that both the movies will emerge as super-hits. The confidence shown by the Bhatt’s in both these movies, has worked; and Jannat 2 may even go on to gross more than its prequel. It’s safe to assume that Jannat 2 will emerge as one of the highest earners of this year.

The official figures are finally in. First day box office collection of Jannat 2 is 8.5 crores. The opening figures seemed to be pretty decent but it seems the movie fell flat after Day 1. Day 2 box office collections of Jannat 2 were a mere 7 crores. That’s a huge drop for a film on it’s very second day. IPL might have actually done this damage to the movie’s box office collections. Sunday was expected to be a big day for the Emraan Hashmi starrer. However, the first Sunday box office collection of Jannat 2 were a mere 9 crores. This was indeed way below expectations.

The first weekend domestic box office collection of Jannat 2 thus stands now at 24.5 crores. Jannat 2 also made a decent 2.5 crores at the overseas box office in its first weekend. With the absence of any other big starrer film on the Indian box office the movie is expected to do a decent business during the 1st week.

So the movie seems to have done a fair business at the Indian box office. The first week total for Jannat 2 at the domestic box office came up to 35.5 crores nett. Another 3 crores at the overseas box office makes the films total worldwide box office collections 38 crores.

However, with the release of highly anticipated Ishaqzaade and Dangerous Ishq this week the movie is not expected to last long at the Indian box office.

Updates:

The movie did decently even in it’s 2nd week at the box office making a good 7 crores. The total domestic box office collections of Jannat 2 as of now stands at 42 crores and another 3 crores came from the overseas box office collections. Looks like the movie did stand up to the expectations of the makers and the masses together.

Earnings of Vicky Donor as of 27th April 2012 is 15 Crores

Movies with a social message seems to be on the rise now-a-days. Vicky Donor is based on the lines of sperm donation in today’s world. Though the promos give us the fun angle of the movie, it is undoubtedly a film which brings to the masses the hush hush world of sperm donation.

The movie is the production debut of John Abraham. Though he appears in just one song in the film, it seems he has done a lot for the promotion of this film. Making his acting debut with this film, MTv VJ Ayushmann Khurana has left no stone unturned to make this movie a hit. Except for the huge promotional activity, the movie’s music seems to gave done exceptionally well in the Indian markets. It seems the movie will do a decent business at the Indian Box Office.

Vicky Donor is expected to do especially well in the multiplexes and urban cities. The local flavor of North India might help the movie do better in Punjab, Haryana, NCR, Delhi, etc. Single screen theaters and rural areas however are not expected to relate well to the theme of the movie. Vicky Donor will have to rely heavily on the collection in urban areas. Word of mouth and positive reviews will as usual affect the popularity of the film at the global box office.

We predict a first weekend collection of nett 6-7 crores at the Indian box office. The total first week collection will not be more than 10-12 crores. Life time collections of the film is expected to be around 15-16 crores.

The morning show of the film had an occupancy rate of about 25% on day one. This went on ahead to about 45-50% by the end of the 1st day. Looks like the expected collections of the film will be round about 1.45 crores nett on day one. Let’s see what the weekend brings out for the film.

Updates:

We finally have the official figures of Vicky Donor’s box office collections. Seems the movie did better than we predicted however it still couldn’t beat Hate Story at the domestic box office. Having performed well in the urban multiplexes the movie has indeed done a decent job in the metros. Vicky Donor Day 1 Box Office Collections stood at a decent 1.8 crores nett. As expected the movie received a boost on Saturday with a jump of around 35%. Vicky Donor Day 2 Box Office Collections stood stronger with 2.40 crores nett. The movie’s total domestic collection as of now is 4.20 crores.

The good news for the movie is that it also did some business at the oversease box office. Vicky Donor made a 1.90 crores nett at the overseas box office in its first 2 days. John Abraham’s production debut looks good at 6.10 crores in the first two days. The figures as of now looks good for a small budget film with all newcomers. It seems the movie will easily reach somewhat 8 crores in its first weekend. Too good a figure for the movie eh. Let’s see how long the movie lasts at the box office.

Making a slow start at the box office it seems the critics positive reviews have finally paid off. It seems Vicky Donor is finally overtaking the box office collections of Hate Story. The movie saw a good box office collection of 3.45 crores on its 1st Sunday. Vicky Donor also has a decent box office collection of 1.90 crores nett at the overseas box office. IPL seems to be losing its charm as more and more people are preferring movies over cricket matches.

The 1st weekend box office collections of Vicky Donor stands strong at 10.95 crores. With big budget films lined up for release soon, it will be a challenge for the movie to keep up pace. Only time will tell.

Positive reviews and word of mouth publicity finally seems to have done Vicky Donor some good. The movie made a decent 13 crores at the domestic box office in its 1st week. Another 1.90 crores were collected from the overseas box office. The total global collection of Vicky Donor in its 1st week stands at 15 crores nett. Multi-starrer Tezz might affect the movie’s collections in its 2nd week. Keep visiting to stay updated.

Earnings of Housefull 2 as of 27th April 2012 is 138 crores.

One of the most awaited films of 2012, Housefull 2 hits the theaters today. Makers of the sequel to Houseful 1 are quite confident that the movie will do exceptionally better than its previous part. Packed with star figures, foot tapping numbers, and the uncanny humor, the movie is sure to bring houses down. With the huge promotional activity that the production team did it is only natural that the movie will show a good opening at the Indian box office.

Another factor which might actually work for the film is the fact that none of the movies post the release of Kahaani did any good at the box office. From the looks of it a lifetime collection of about 100 crores is a certainty. Thanks to the popularity of the name of the franchise and the star cast the opening week collection should be nothing less than a good 40 crores. Opening day collection of over 15 crores is expected as of now.

The movie released in about 2700 screens which is not just a huge figure but perhaps one of the largest releases ever. It only has movies like Ra.One and Bodyguard to compete with it on the number of screens it released on.

Housefull 2 had a pretty good opening at multiplexes all over the country. It collected about 70-75% on an average in India. There were cities in the North India where the movie even opened at about 100% occupancy. Cities like Gujrat, Punjab and Rajasthan showed over 80% occupation rates whereas Maharastra and other South Cities showed about 50-60% occupancy. One can thus conclude that the movie had a pretty nice opening all over the country.

The movie has even showed a decent promise at the overseas box office too. It seems the movie is going to have a huge weekend. This comes as a relief to the Indian film industry which had not been seeing any good earners for a long time now.

So the official figures are finally out and the movie did make a good 13.95 crores on day one. Day two’s early estimate as of now is 14 crores. We predict Sunday to earn about 18 crores. The total domestic collection of the movie is thus expected to be around 45-46 crores. Since the movie also did well at the overseas box office around 12 crores is expected from the same. The total world wide collection for the movie’s first weekend should be around 66-67 crores.

Updates:

After a 14 crore collection on day one, the movie went dropped to a 13 crores on Saturday. The movie had the 2nd best opening day collection of 2012 after Agneepath which did an opening day business of 25 crores. Sunday gave a huge boost to the movie’s box office collection with 15 crores. The total domestic collection of the movie as of now stands at 42 crores. Another 5.50 crores were collected at the international box office taking the grand weekend total of the movie to 47.50 crores. With no competition the movie is only expected to do decently during the weekdays.

So the week is finally done and it seems Housefull 2 has done pretty well for itself in the first week itself. The movie grossed a net total of about 63 crores which is a pretty big figure seen after quite some time at the Bollywood box office. The release of small flicks this week will have no effect on the collections of Housefull 2 and it seems to movie will maintain its steady pace in the 2nd week too. IPL definitely took a bit of a toll on this movies box office collection.

With no resistance at all Housefull 2 still seems to be doing pretty decently at the Indian Box Office. Releases like Bittoo Boss and Choodo Kal Ki Baatein proved to be huge flops at the Indian Box Office giving the audiences nothing but Housefull 2 to watch. Starting off with 4.30 crores in the second weekend Housefull 2 grossed another 6.50 crores on Saturday. The second sunday box office collection of the movie is expected to be around 8.10 crores which will bring up to the total domestic collections to 82.53 crores. Another 23.50 crores at the overseas box office makes the films total yet to about 106.03 crores. The total box office collection of Housefull 2 till the 2nd weekend is 106.03 crores. The movie was projected to have a 100 crore plus box office collection and it seems the predictions came true. The movie is expected to do decently in the ongoing week too.

Housefull 2 seems to have done a fabulous business at the global box office. The 1st week total of the movie was a massive 64 crores. The 2nd week total 30 crores and the 3rd week came to a decent 13 crores. The total domestic collections yet is 107 crores and the overseas box office collections 31 crores. This brings up the 3 week total of Housefull 2 to about 138 crores. Let’s see how long the movie stays at the box office but considering the other movies not doing so well it still has good chances.

Estimated earnings of Agent Vinod as of 30th March 2012 is INR 44.95 Crores

After a huge row of controversies and allegations, Agent Vinod finally sees the day. After the movie was banned in Pakistan, a series of statements from both ends flooded the internet and other media channels. After the Iranian band Barobax Corp filed charges against the song ‘Pungi’ in the Mumbai High Court there were even doubts as to whether the movie will be released on its stated release date. However, overcoming all the hassles the movie finally saw the light of the day. The controversies seem to have done the movie more publicity than anything else.

Having received mixed reviews by many critics it was pretty difficult to project the expected box office figures for this movie. Most of the reviews, as you perhaps already know went against the movie. However, in a country where the box office collections of a particular film are not determined by its critical analysis rather by the star cast it is expected that the movie will do a decent business in the markets. With stars like Saif Ali Khan and Bollywood’s uncrowned queen Kareena Kapoor makers are expecting more than just the making costs of the Bollywood flick.

The movie was made on a budget of INR 60 crores and huge promotions seem to have done the movie a lot good. Agent Vinod opened on a huge number of screens all over the globe. The chemistry of the real life couple Saif and Kareena seem to have added life to the movie and fans just cant get enough.

Decent crowds were seen all over the country in multiplexes and single screen theaters early morning. Many theaters went house-full and were booked well in advance. It seems fans have booked a lot of tickets in advance for the weekend. The movie as we predict should make a total collection of 70-80 crores. It seems unlikely to join the 100 crore club but will surely do a decent business in global markets.

Updates:

Despite the huge promotional campaign the movie seems to have done little good at the box office. Bad reviews seem to have marred the collections of the Saifeena starrer film. Though the film did a decent business in most parts of the country on Friday the weekend did a little good to the movie’s collections. Agent Vinod made about 9.60 crores on its opening day in India. Saturday saw almost negligible changes in the film’s box office collections as crowds seem to not like the movie a lot. The movie made a staggering 9.90 crores on Saturday.

Word of mouth seems to have done the worst damage to the film and collections did not rise over 09.05 crores on Sunday. It seems difficult for the movie to make a lot of money in the coming week. A collection of 5-6 crores for a few days is likely however. It might make the film recover its making costs in the least. Agent Vinod seems to have done poorly overseas too. Being banned in Pakistan added to its woes and it made a total collection of 3.50 crores at the overseas box office. The total box office collections of the film as of now stands at 32.05 crores. Seems the movie did way poorer than expected but that’s what you expect of a film full of plagiarism. Here’s a tabular database of Agent Vinod’s collections till date:

Domestic Collections
Friday09.60 crores
Saturday09.90 crores
Sunday09.05 crores
Total Domestic Collections28.55 crores
Total Overseas Collections03.50 crores
Total Worldwide Collections32.05 crores

Lets see how well the movie does in the coming weekend.

The movie did very poorly, way more than anticipated. Trust me when I say Saif couldn’t have imagined worse. After a modest 9.05 crores on Sunday, the movie opened to a pretty bad collection on Monday. The first day of the week saw a mere 3.40 crores net collection for the movie. Tuesday proved to be even worse with only 2.40 crores. Agent Vinod’s collections dropped further on Wednesday with only 2 crores. Trursday was the worst on the whole week with merely 1.70 crores. Seems the movie won’t last another week on the box office. The total domestic collection of Agent Vinod as of now is 38.15 crores. Add to it 6.80 crores of the overseas box office collection and you get a net total collection of 44.95 crores. It seems the movie will somehow recover its making cost. So Saif what really is your name “Mr. Flop Producer” is it?

Earnings of Kahaani as of 30th March 2012 is INR 62.70 crores

Among the two major releases this ‘Holi’ week is Director Sujoy Ghosh’s much anticipated film ‘Kahaani’. Although the movie promos seemed quite interesting and catchy, it has disappointed the traders as it opened to a below-average response even in the multiplexes.

The plex occupancy improved later in the evening but it is still below the 50% mark. Because of its Calcutta connect, it has done well in Bengal, despite the Holi festivities.

In Mumbai, the response was lukewarm, but as the day progressed, collections improved. Gujarat had a different story to tell. The film has not done as well as the hype that was created. It has been able to garner just around Rs. 10 lacs, which makes it doubtful that the collections will rise.

In many other cities, Kahaani was rated between a meager 10-15% record collection. Industry experts conclude that although Kahaani is faring better than the other Holi release, Chaar Din Ki Chandni, it has not been able to collect more than 20-22 lacs in its first day.

The film is basically about a pregnant woman, Vidya Bagchi, who comes down to Calcutta to hunt for her missing husband, Arnab Bagchi. Whether or not the film will improve at the box office collections depends on whether the film is liked by the audiences.

Though hyped a lot even receiving a lot of positive reviews did the movie little good at the box office. Here is the territorial breakdown for the total collection of Kahaani on day 1.

Mumbai – 95 lakhs

Delhi/UP – 50 lakhs

East Punjab – 19 lakhs

West Bengal – 30 lakhs

CP Berar – 9 lakhs

CI – 7 lakhs

Rajasthan – 9 lakhs

Nizam – 10 lakhs

Mysore – 20 lakhs

Others – 10 lakhs

TOTAL – 2.59 crore

The first day total of the film thus came down to a mere 2.59 crores. About 88 lacks was a decent collection for the paid previews of the film on thursday. Come Friday and the movie did show a considerable growth with generating a mere 2.95 crores net at the box office. Having released at a big scale of about 1000 screens it might seem a decent collection but far more was expected from this Vidya Balan starrer. The total collection of the film as of now stands at 3.83 crores. It is expected to wrap up the weekend collection at about 9 crores net.

Overseas Collections:

Kahaani also did a pretty good job at the international box office in its first weekend. You have to keep in find the fact that the movie was not exactly based on a overseas friendly genre before you judge it by the figures. The total box office collection in the international markets for Kahaani was INR 3.30 crores.

The movie released in a total of 45 theaters in the USA and collected about INR 1.31 crores on the first weekend. UAE box office collections where decent with INR 1.13 crores. Kahaani also made a modest INR 54.21 crores having released at 31 screens in the United Kingdom. Other minor collections are: INR 29.16 in Australia, INR 1.89 lacks in New Zealand and INR 2.42 lacks in Fiji.

Updates:

Irrespective of the fact that Kahaani is perhaps not as ‘entertaining’ as that of The Dirty Pictures, Vidya Balan’s acting in the film is drawing a decent crowd to the theaters. Saturday saw a massive boost in the films box office collection with about 4.75 crores. Sunday saw an even higher box office of 5.25 crores. The weekend seems to have given a massive boost to the film’s box office collection and the first weekend collection of the film now stands at 13.50 crores net. The movie is expected to make a decent pace in the week to follow too.

1st Week Collections

There is no doubt about the fact that Kahaani has emerged as a super hit after its first week colections. The movie has grossed about 23 crores in its first week. Since there are no other big releases lined up in Kahaani’s 2nd week it is only expected that the movie will keep going strong in its 2nd week. The movie has done pretty well in all metro cities especially in Kolkata because of the city connect in the movie.

2nd Weekend Collections:

The movie is faring pretty well even in its 2nd week. No other big releases this week seems to have helped the cause. After a decent 2.05 crores of domestic collections on Friday, the movie’s collections rose to a 3.80 crores on Saturday. The early estimates for Sunday is about 4.60 crores. The total domestic collections till now thus stands at 33.20 crores nett. Add to it 6.50 crores from the overseas box office and you get a total box office collection of INR 39.70 crores. Sales are expected to drop in the week also due to the much anticipated release Agent Vinod.

3rd Week Worldwide Collections

It does not come as a surprise that the Vidya Balan starrer is still doing better than many other movies which released later at the box office. After a 1st week collection of 22.75 crores and 2nd week collection of 19.05 crores the movie collected a decent 8.70 crores in the 3rd week. It is a fairly high collection for any movie in its 3rd week.

The total domestic collection of the movie as of now stands at 50.50 crores nett. A collection of 12.20 crores at the overseas box office makes the nett total stand at 62.70 crores. We predict the lifetime collection of the movie to be around 70 crores nett at the worldwide box office.

Earnings of Jodi Breakers as of 2nd March 2012 is INR 8.5 Crores

Much was expected of Jodi Breakers considering the hype that the movie has generated. Add to that, the buzz created by Salim-Sulaiman’s music and the unusual pairing of Bipasha-Madhavan. However, Jodi Breakers opened to a poor response from the audience. Most critics also panned the film stating that it is too dull.

The film was expected to attract youth audience. The overall collections of the film were to be drawn from the urban multiplexes. However, youth has turned its back on the movie. It remains highly unlikely that the collections will rise by the weekend.

The movie is also in direct competition with another film released today, Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya. As both movies were centered for the same age group, collections have got divided. The overall collection of Jodi Breakers was estimated to be 1.90 crores by the day’s end. It is safe to say that the movie would fail to do well at the box office.

Updates:

After a really bad 1st day with a collection of merely 1.50 crores the movie staggered a bit high on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday was a decent 2.0 crores and Sunday a bit higher with 2.50 crores. The total box office collection of Jodi breakers as of now is 6 crores.

DayBox Office Collection
Friday1.50 crores
Saturday2.00 crores
Sunday2.50 crores
Weekend Total6.00 crores

After a poor first weekend it seems the collection will only go down with every passing day.

The movie ended its run in the box office on the first week itself. All it made was a meager collection which is as follows:

India

Friday (First Day): 1.50 cr

Saturday: 2 cr

Sunday: 2.40 cr

Monday: 80 lacs

Tuesday: 65 lacs

Wednesday: 55 lacs

Thursday: 50 lacs

Total: 8.5 cr (7 Days)

Overseas

UK – £23,175

USA – $52,618

Australia – $29,709

New Zealand – $9,640

Fiji – $10,386

Total: $200,000 (1.2 cr)

It seems the movie made about 10 crores total at the box office. Jodi Breakers definitely proved to be a flop for Madhavan and Bipasha. Seems both these actors are on a flop streak these days.

Earnings of Ek Deewana Tha as of 19th February 2012 is 3.5 – 4 crores

With nothing but negative reviews flowing in, it wasn’t a surprise to predict that Ek Deewana Tha is purely going to be a flop show. With all the hype created by the movie it was shocking to witness empty movie theaters all over the country.

The average occupancy rate for the movie wasn’t even more than 5-10%. It is as much as multiplexes are seeing for the previous release Ek Main Ekk Tu. In fact we won’t be surprised if Ek Main Ekk Tu still keeps doing better business than that of Ek Deewana Tha. The former seems the only option available to cinema buffs all over the country.

The first day collection for the movie was merely 60 lacks. It performed pretty poorly in all the circles. Here are a few examples:

  • Delhi/UP – 12 lakhs
  • East Punjab – 5 lakhs
  • CP Berar – 3 lakhs
  • Mysore – 5 lakhs
We do not expect the movie to make over 2.5 crores this weekend. Let’s see if weekend brings in some fresh collections for the movie or is it doomed forever.

The release of highly awaited films like Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya and Jodi Breakers in the coming weeks might actually help the industry but till then it will have to do with Ek Main Ekk Tu I guess.

Updates:

Continuing its poor performance at the Box Office Ek Deewana Tha made a mere 2.75-3 crores on its first weekend. It was an escalation from the opening day collection but still lower than the collection of Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu. Doesn’t look like the movie is going to survive another week at the box office.

Earnings of Ek Main aur Ekk Tu as of 19th February 2012 is 37.5 crores

Ek Main aur Ekk Tu had garnered a huge hype after its incessant promotions all around. The Dharma Production movie did decently after recovering from a slight low on Friday. It went on to gross Rs 5.25 crore on the initial day.

The film opened to an unexpected low opening, which surprised the trade pundits. Expected to do well prior to its release, the film did not manage to charm the audience in the initial few hours of its release. However, it picked up later during as the evening approached. This took the total collection of the day towards the 5 crore mark. Multiplex audience gave the film thumbs up and majority of the collections were in the multiplex areas only. Single screens failed to attract the audience. The collections were on a higher side in the city areas too. The appeal of the movie is largely urban oriented and the slight failure to attract rural audience is understandable.

The film is expected to do a total business of somewhere around 18 crores in its first weekend. As the film is romantic, the weekend is expected to be a huge one for the film. As the film is based on a romantic theme, Valentine’s Day is also expected to add to the overall collection. All in all, the film is expected to do fairly well.

After a bad first day it seems the positive reviews are finally doing the movie some good. Word of mouth and positive critic reviews led to risen occupancy on Saturday and the movie made a 7.18 crores. Sunday is expected to bring in another 9 plus crores for the movie. All in all it seems Ek Main Aur Ek Tu will survive at the box office till the next big release, i.e. Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya on the 23rd of February.

Updates:

The Sunday collections of Ek Main Ekk Tu were pretty good and rose steadily after a 7.18 crore Saturday box office. The today box office collection on sunday stood at 8.25 crores making the first weekend total of the movie a decent 21 crores.

The good news for the movie is its overseas collection. Consider UK and the movie made a whooping GBP 67,465 despite the turbulence in weather there. The North America states made an amazing $200,000 which even broke the record of Imran’s Delhi Belly. The Gulf Countries are also nowhere behind in the box office collections. Consider the figures of Thursday and Friday and you will know that the movie made a whooping $ 313, 779. The movie is proving to be the biggest grosser in the Gulf countries.

After doing a somewhat decent business in the last few days (thanks to the flop Ek Deewana Tha) Ek Main aur Ekk Tu made a stable 5 crores in its 2nd weekend. The 10 day total of the small budget film now stands at 37.5 crores. Not bad eh!

Earnings of Agneepath as of 6th February 2012 is 107.3 crores

Agneepath, directed by Karan Malhotra, Is as we all know, a remake of the original Amitabh Bachchan film, ‘Agneepath’. So, does the remake live up to the original? Let us take a look.

From the very first significant scene, namely, the one where the character of Vijay Dinanath Chauhan first introduces himself, we realise that this remake will have a value of its own. The scene, in the Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra starrer is not the exact copy of the original but it has its magic. It does not kill the feeling of déjà vu, but manages to perhaps give a better perception of the uniqueness as well as the personality of the character of Vijay.

The story unfolds in the same way as the Amitabh Bachchan starrer, that Kancha Cheena, played by Sanjay Dutt, is the sole authority in the island of Mandwa. He kills the school master Dinanath Chauhan, who proves to be too rebellious for this tolerance. The son of this school master promises to make Kancha pay for this act. He grows up to be Vijay Dinanath Chauhan, played by Hrithik Roshan. The king of the Mumbai underworld, Rauf Lala, played here by Rishi Kapoor, takes Vijay under his guidance and leads him to Kancha Cheena to fulfil his promise of revenge and take seize from him his island.

Coming to the performances, Hrithik shines in this most awaited film of his. He gives the character if Vijay an edge that is unique to the film and independent of the original. Sanjay Dutt in his striking new avatar too manages to bring a separate flavour to the film. Rishi Kapoor too is one such actor who has truly outdone himself. In the role of Rauf Lala, the actor has invented and incorporated such evil and meanness that it is alien to his audience and fans. Priyanka Chopra in the lead role is but fairly good and so is Om Puri. The young Arish Bhiwandiwala too is convincing as the young age of Vijay. All over, the entire cast has played a part in bringing the magic of ‘Agneepath’ alive and the movie has already struck a chord with the audience.

Coming to the box office collections, ‘Agneepath’ is already being termed as the very first hit film in the year 2012. Thanks to this extraordinary start, the success of ‘Agneepath’ is being compared to that of the Salman Khan starrer ‘Bodyguard’. So will the film create history as one of the highest grossing films of all times, or will the ‘Agneepath’ craze go downhill after first day? That remains to be seen, but going by the interest generated in every big city, it can be predicted that the chances of the former are by far greater.

The official box-office collections place the 1st day collections at Rs 25 crores for all India collection. No wonder all the theaters are going house full.

It was shocking to see the movie staggering at the box-office on Day 2. It might have been coz of the Republic Day holiday. Releasing the movie on a Thursday was thus not a bad idea. The steep fall in collections landed the movie with a mere 12-12.5 crores on day 2.

The collections however seem to have steadied on Saturday and is expected to recover today. The theaters saw a good footfall which was a good change from the 45-48% drop on day 2. Let’s see how much the movie makes throughout the weekend.

And here we are with the first weekend collection of Agneepath. After the drop on Friday the movie only made a small recovery by making 13.5 crores on Saturday. However come Sunday and the movie was back to a higher box-office collection. It raked a total of 17-18 crores on Sunday. The total collection of the movie at present stands at about 66 – 67 crores net. It seems Agneepath will join the 100 crore club sooner than we thought.

After a massive weekend collection Agneepath settled for a decent 7.5 – 8 crore collection on Monday. The All India box-office collections look promising yet. Multiplexes sales, however are showing a pretty steep fall as compared to single screen theaters. The 5 day total box-office collections now stand at a decent 74 – 75.5 crores.

The complete one week collections of Agneepath is just in and it seems the movie could not smash bodyguards record by just a few crores. The total collections of its first week at the box-office has been 91.80 crores. Here is a tabulated sheet. Have a look:

DayBox-Office Collections
Thursday (Jan 26)23.00
Friday (Jan 27)12.50
Saturday (Jan 28)13.50
Sunday (Jan 29)18.00
Monday (Jan 30)8.00
Tuesday (Jan 31)6.40
Wednesday (Feb 1)5.40
Thursday (Feb 2)4.00
One Week Total91.80

Agneepath is proving to be one of the biggest initial openings of Hritik Roshan so far. This movie it seems will welcome the bollywood heartthrob into the 100 crore club. The fastest grossed 100 crores was by Bodyguard in 8 days and it seemed that Agneepath was all set to smash that record but as we all know that won’t happen anymore. The opening however has been record breaking including the records set by Bodyguard.

Updates:

Come Sunday and the movie touched the 100 crore record. Though the movie made only a 15.50 crore in its second weekend, its 91.80 crores in the first week was enough to make Agneepath touch the 100 crore mark. As far as the total current box-office collections of the movie is concerned it has made a whopping 107.3 crores in the last 11 days. In addition the movie also holds the record for the highest opening day collection by any movie yet, i.e. Rs 23 crores on the 26th of January. It seems the movie has shut the mouth of many trade analysts who branded the movie a flop after the drop in its collections on day 2. Hritik Roshan finally joins the 100 crore club. Lets see how much more the movie rakes.

Earnings of Players as of 26th January is 22 crore

Remakes are always tough bait especially if you have the huge responsibility of remaking a classic. Abbas Mustan with Players divulged on that difficult path. The movie is the remake of poignant classic Hollywood movie, The Italian Job. The duo abysmally fails at every point to match up with the original.

The scenic beauty of the film along with smashing style is naturally a treat to the eyes, but that is it to the film. It exploits the technicalities of film making and yet fails to make a good film. The plot is loose and has too many pitfalls. Dialogues lack weight and strength altogether. The screenplay is extremely complicated. Bipasha Basu will remind you of her role in Race. The movie is a very bad hotchpotch of Race blended with The Italian Job. But the best part is audiences who love this film will love it for its sheer technical brilliance. It was indeed a treat for the eyes!

The plot is about an international robbery planned by Abhishek Bachchan and is helped by the rest starting from Vinod Khanna, his mentor. Bobby, Bipasha, Sikander, Neil and Omy play the 5 Players. Sonam has a major chunk of a role towards the climax.

With bored acting and slow action, combined with seriously archaic dialogues, Players fail to reach to its audiences. The suspense is too open to create any sort of thrill. It was mostly predictable. The movie is good for its few actors. Bachchan was amazing at his role. So was Vinod Khanna. The length of the film killed it as well. It almost ranted off for 3 hours!

The project is a little too expensive and that is what is going to garner the losses.

The film opened big at most metropolitan cities and very slow in the smaller cities, but it looks like the film will not have any repeat audience. The film’s crux has nothing to pull greater audiences to the theatres. The reviews are mostly towards the lower range. The box office collections are expected to slow down soon, by sometime mid next week. The movie is expected to fare decently at a few multiplexes and badly at the rest. Bad reviews have completely gone against the film’s collections. It is the single screens releasing Players who will have to bear the bigger loss.

Players flopped abysmally at the box office. It collections started dwindling soon after the first day. Saturday and Sunday proves to be crucial for any movie and with Players it just sealed their flopped fates. With a total collection of 13.4 crores, Players is sure of not making much money after this. This movie has added another flop to Abhishek Bachchan’s long list and is in fact all set to beat the score of his biggest flop Delhi-6 as well.

The first week collection of Players has just come in. From the looks of it this movie is sure going to prove one of the biggest flops ever. The figures are 21.25 crores over the first week. And we are expecting a lifetime collection of not more than 25 crores.

Earnings of Don 2 as of 12th January is 104.3 crore

Albeit the dialogue from the first movie’ Don ko pakarna muskil hi nahi namumkin hai..” the movie continues the legacy of a thriller well executed. Shah Rukh Khan spells out style and machoism in every frame. With a lady cop like the stylish and sensual Roma (read Priyanka Chopra), the cat and mouse chase sequences become even more enjoyable. With a jigsaw puzzle that initially seems like a confusing lot, the story unfolds and later all the pieces of the puzzle align themselves to for a perfect plot.

The twist and turns are mind boggling and one may even argue that Don 2 is a better rendition of the first version, however this remains debatable. Shah Rukh Khan’s performance has an all time high appeal in the movie and his characters reminds us of legendary characters like James Bond. Farhaan Akhtar has yet again come out victorious after this venture and the two hours thirty minute movie never experiences a moment of drag. With picturesque frames and amazing foreign locales like Thailand, Malaysia, Berlin used for the movies, it does match up to the Hollywood counterpart in terms of a thriller and action movie.

In the movie, Don is set to accomplish an uphill task of stealing the currency plates of Euro from the vault in Berlin and wishes to go unnoticed and free. This mission sets the plot for the film and the array of event leading to this forms the circle holding the movie together. With hit dialogues that are set to become a cult for the masses, the special appearance by Lara Dutta was also a good addition to the movie. With mediocre music of Shankar Ehsaan and Loy being the only downside of the film, Don 2 has conquered the heart of the audience.

With unique marketing strategies that were adopted, Don 2 opened to full houses and pre bookings were made for the first day first show. The star stuck fans rushed in to see their King Khan in yet another charming avatar and the box office seems to be clicking merrily towards success this Christmas. With year end festivities, Don2 is going to make a good end for the Bollywood box office records. The movie was released in around three thousand cinema halls across the country and received about 80-85% response on its first day.

The first day records according to different regions are-

Don 2 is estimated to have a record collection of 19 to 20 crores in the first day itself and the weekend is expected to get a collection of 40-50 crores, especially with the festivities and Christmas around. Delhi, U.P. and Rajasthan has topped the charts in terms of collection for the first days as these places saw full houses and packed theatres.

The time of anticipations are over and we now have the actual box-office collection of Don 2′s 1st day.

Considering the ongoing Christmas weekend one can only say that the collections of Don 2 are going to spike up.

SRK’s Don 2 seems to be doing pretty well overseas too. If you consider just the UAE the movie collected some $360,000, an amount which is much more than Khan`s My Name is Khan which had managed to collect $240,000 on day one.

The total overseas collection will be around 4 crores which brings up Don 2′s two day collections to a total of 19.3 crores.

Don 2 did quite an impressive business over this weekend. It was remarkable to find houseful theaters all over the country. Be it the multiplexes or single screen cinemas all of them seem to have encountered 100% occupancy. The only regions where the movie has not been consistently doing well are Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Assam.

All India collections for Don 2 on Saturday went up to 14.6 crores. The same went up to 16 crores on Sunday. Include the international collections and the figures went up to 17.85 crores. The movie as it seems has been quite well in International markets with a gross of about 23.16 crores in the major hubs. This figure includes data from countries like Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom and United States of America.

Sum all this up and you definitely get one of the highest weekend collections. Don 2′s total income comes to47.95 crores. If you compare it with other popular movies of the time it is the 3rd best earnings in the first three days by any Bollywood movie.

Hence, the First Weekend Collections are 47.95 cr. This is the 3rd Best Figure for First Three Days. This includes all the versions of the movie in different languages.

If we look at Monday’s the occupancy for the morning show was on an average 50%. However in cities like Chandigarh, Delhi and Mumbai the occupancy was higher with about 70-80%. Monday it seemed was going to be another great day for Day 2. We expected coming up with some amazing figures by the end of day and yes we did.

The movie experienced a drop of less than 50% and made a decent 7.25 crores on Monday. Overall it went of well on Monday sustaining minor drops. Don 2 however maintained a somewhat steady pace even through Tuesday. We might not be surprised if the movie’s box-office collection touches the 100 crore mark.

The movie showed the first first noticeable drop on Wednesday. Morning shows around the country showed a 30-40% occupancy. The figures only came up as 6 crores for the Hindi version and 20 lacks for regional language versions.

The till date collection of Don 2, i.e. the last 6 days is about 69 crores. We strongly believe that this week is going to wind up a minimum of 74 crores. Many might say it is a bit less that the expectations but keep in mind that the new year is coming in a couple of days and the first two weeks of January might see a rise in the box-office collections of the movie.

The first week box-office collections of Don 2 are just in. Though many are claiming that the movie did not do as expected on the box-office there is no denying that it’s performing quite decently. The total collection came upto 75.32 crore at the end of the 1st weekend. This makes the movie one of the top grossers at the box-office. All the versions of the movie including the Telugu one did pretty nicely all over the globe. Don 2 did pretty well even on the international platform. Indeed it broke all the landmarks set by both Salman and SRK’s previous movies.
